Garth A. Bernard, MAAA

Garth Bernard is President and CEO of the Sharper Financial Group LLC, a consulting practice specializing in the marketing and development of retirement products and solutions. He has over 25 years of experience in the US and Canadian financial services industries. Garth is widely recognized as an expert in the field of retirement income solutions and annuities; he has written several articles on the subject and is often quoted in national and industry media. He has been a frequent speaker and participant at retirement industry conferences and has served on numerous retirement industry committees.
R. H. “Rick” Carey
is the founder of the Retirement Income Solutions Enterprise® (RISE) and the Variable Annuity Research and Data Service (VARDS®), now a division of Morningstar, Inc. While at VARDS®, founded in 1988, he designed and developed many of the variable annuity (VA) industry's analytical standards and benchmarks in use today. Rick sold VARDS® in July of 2000 and remained with the company until June of 2005.
Before leaving VARDS®, Rick introduced the VARDS® Greenwald Strategy Service (VGSS), a joint venture with Mathew Greenwald & Associates, which provided research and consultative services to companies in the annuity business. Working with distributors and manufacturers, VGSS focused its efforts on targeted issues related to annuity product design and distribution in the retirement income marketplace.
Spencer Dillard
has extensive software design and product management experience in the financial services industry, in both established and start-up companies. Spencer is currently a Senior Developer with SimBLOX, a provider of advanced project management solutions, where he is part of a team of simulation and analytics experts. He was a senior manager of netDecide, a pioneer in web-based wealth management systems.
For the past 3 years, Spencer has been an independent consultant, providing strategic business and technology consulting to financial institutions. He specializes in retirement income planning/management and financial planning system design, development, and testing. A seasoned presenter, Spencer has spoken at many conferences on software design.
